Hi! My name is Xavier Minali-Bella.
Today I'm a Web Consultant living in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I'm also a Sax player and play with a band in Brisbane.

I was born in Cameroon in the seventies to a French psychologist mother and an economist father from Cameroon.  I grew up in Cameroon where I had a really wonderful childhood.  When I was about fifteen, my parents moved to a small village in Poitou Charente, France where we could be close to the French side of our family.

xavier-minali-web-consultant-in-sydneyI very quickly found new friends, lots of fun, discovered pubs and girlfriends and all that young stuff...not all of it was good for me but it certainly was exciting! At the same time I was helping my parents with their computer shop. I've always been interested in everything technical and all things computer related, My parents opened a computer shop in Niort (France).
I started to study music, classical piano, after making friends with some musicians in High School.  Two years later I also took up the jazz saxophone.  After school, I began study in music in at the University of Francois Rabelais, a public university in Tours, France.  The university is named after the French writer François Rabelais, He is very famous for his insightful writing – a very interesting man.

That year, I also discovered a lot of writers from German romantic literature: Herman Hess Thomas Mann, Nietzsche, Sweig...These writers had ideas and perspectives and language that changed me deeply.
So then, I moved to Toulouse to study in jazz school and finish my music studies at University..
  • Developing contracts with Events Managers
  • Marketing - looking for gigs: festivals, pub, theatre, whatever!
  • Negotiations around remuneration – we all do like to get paid...
  • Marketing and promoting the band
  • Managing the working relationships and style of the individuals within the band to share the one vision and bring all the parts together with energy!.

About this time, I began getting into the Internet - webdesign and began using it as musician and band manager. I quickly understood the power of this tool and in 2001 I built my first website.

A few months later, I built my first web design company. It was dedicated to cultural (music and art in general) on-line services: It was called OMKA which stands for a longer French name - Outils Multimedia & Kulture Associe!
The concept of the web had really not caught on at that time so we were a bit too far ahead of the curve – hard to believe this now!

Well, then, for something different in 2002, I moved to Netherlands for one year and worked in a cheese factory. I really did! It was a great experience and I met very lovely people.

I was working at the same time as a web designer doing freelance work for a couple of for various communication companies Toulouse. 2004 I felt the market for e-commerce ready in France. I decided to build my own web agency : ROUGE - GRENAT dedicated to ecommerce. The company developed very well thanks to good commercial work and a good offshore subcontracting network.

End of 2006 I decided to move to this beautiful country Australia. I sold my company to start a new life...and arrived in Melbourne in March 2007.

After few months in Melbourne, we moved to Brisbane.

I met nice pople and have great friend in Brisbane and as in my spare time, I've put together another Jazz Group, a quintet Blue Magic Jazz. We have a great time together when we perform. Our mix brings together an African take on jazz standards with, we think, a pretty vibrant approach to rhythm and interpretation. We play as though there is no audience – although an audience is a bonus!

I work today in my day job as a Web Consultant for Archer Creative – this is a great company focused on brand development, marketing, design and communications – amongst other things.

So now – Brisbane! I love this city and the lifstyle here and I always travel with my saxophones...

That’s the story so far…more chapters to come!

"It is change, continuing change, inevitable change, that is the dominant factor in society today.

No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is,
but the world as it will be".
